The Secret to Creating Powerful Affirmations That Really Work

Using daily affirmations is a time-tested way to create meaningful and lasting changes in your life, but unless you have crafted your affirmations properly you might not be getting the results that you expected. Unless you know the secret behind creating powerful affirmations, you may be wasting your time and energy. Fortunately, you can avoid this pitfall by learning how to create affirmations that do work, affirmations that help you manifest the changes that you desire.

The problem begins because affirmations are often confused with things like goal lists, dream cards, vision boards, and other great methods of making positive statements about your goals and dreams. These are all great tools that you should include in your SELF growth toolbox, but affirmations are about much more than the things that you wish to attract into your life.

Much more!

To use affirmations effectively, you must understand that In order to manifest something, or to bring it into your life, you must first change yourself into the kind of person that would be able to own or experience whatever it is that you want. Until you become that kind of a person you will be unable to create lasting changes in your life.

This is the secret behind affirmations that is often overlooked by many people when they first learn about this wonderful tool. Affirmations are not about the things that you want, affirmations are about the kind of person that you want to become. Understanding this important difference can help you get the maximum benefit from your daily affirmation practice.

Take losing weight for example. In order to lose weight, you must 'become' a person who has lost weight. Ask yourself, what types of thoughts a person who has lost weight thinks. What types of beliefs do they hold?? What kinds of actions do they take? A person who has lost weight probably holds different thoughts and beliefs, and takes different actions when it comes to food and eating and weight, than someone who is struggling to get rid of those extra pounds.

Creating wealth works in the same way. In order to become wealthy, you must 'become' a person who has gained wealth. A wealthy person has different thoughts about money, debt, and investing than you might have if your are struggling with money right now. A wealthy person thinks about money differently. Wealthy people have developed certain straits and habits that you need to copy and develop in yourself. Ask yourself what those traits and habits are. Write them down.

Your answers to these questions will lead you to discover which of these traits and qualities that you need to develop in yourself. You can now use those traits and qualities as the basis of your daily affirmations.

Here is the bottom line, easy as pie, simple rule for creating affirmations: Concentrate on who you want to become, not on what you want.

Apply this simple secret to your affirmations and you will begin seeing a remarkable change in the results that you are getting.

If you would like to learn more about attracting success and how you can learn to manifest your dreams into reality I invite you to grab your free copy of the ultimate manifesting ebook right now at http://www.bobcrawfordonline.com Click right now and you can start creating the life of your dreams today!

How to Make Money on eBay

There are a ton of ways to make money on eBay but the method I prefer is joining the eBay affiliate program and promoting other peoples auctions and online stores to earn commissions. eBay makes it simple for their affiliate to know which auctions to promote and what is hot and currently selling.

eBay has several sites that provide information on what has been sold recently and the most popular items being searched for on the eBay site. They also provide an advanced search function where you can search for items by number of bids, the more bids an item has the hotter product it is. Then all you need to do is send traffic to this auction via your affiliate link and if your visitor is the successful buyer then you got money in the bank.

The sites you can use to find good sellers and really popular items are eBay Pulse, eBay Popular and advanced search. You can search by narrowing down fields by country, number of bids, recently sold, most searched for and many other fields. This gives the eBay Affiliate a huge advantage as they know they are sending traffic to items people want to buy.

The commissions are also very generous a percentage of the successful final price plus listing fees and you can also earn up to $50 dollars us just for referring a new buyer! There is no other affiliate program online that provides the scope of tools to help their affiliates make money, you can easily generate RSS feeds, blog widgets, JavaScript ads and many other formats all with your affiliate id embedded using the free tools provided.

There is one downside to the eBay Affiliate program and that is the high turn down rate of people applying to join the eBay Partner Network however you can download a free report on how to make money on eBay that will give you a few tips to ensure your application is accepted. This report was written by an eBay development program member and is always up to date with eBay's latest terms and conditions.

The Kingdom That Never Comes - End of Times

Are you one of those people who's waiting for the rapture, the end of the world, the end of times as we know it today. Do you think that it is going to happen soon or within your lifetime? The second Messiah or savior of the world is on its way and you know that you are a decent and good follower of your religion, so there's no fear, only feelings of pleasure and want.

Since you are a good person and believe that your religion is truthful, you have no fear or maybe just a little bit of fear that you will be one that is going to be left behind. Maybe it was something you did in the fifth grade or something you said to somebody that you really didn't mean, therefore it doesn't count against you.

I was talking to someone the other day when they mentioned that the end of times was near and if I didn't repent and join their religion, I wasn't going to enter the holy Kingdom or the promised land. I get tired of listening to these people but more tired of those who are preaching, "the end of times is near and upon us." Somehow they see their place in heaven as something wonderful. All of their fears, frustrations and problems will now be left behind as they enter through the gates of the holy land.

It's almost like these people will be washed clean of all the problems but will somehow keep their same personality. Most of these people create their own personal hell on earth because of their personality and who they have become. Do you think it's going to be much different somewhere else.

You're going to find this hard to believe but I've been listening to the end of the world for over 40 years. I've heard almost every excuse, possibility and reason, why the world is going to end, either this year, or the next, but either way it's going to end very soon.

Here's a word of wisdom for those seeking a better place somewhere else, make the most out of your life, here on earth. Don't just study your religion but study those whom you fear or distrust. If you're a Christian, study Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism and Islam. If you're one of the others then seek some knowledge and wisdom but most of all try to find some compassion for your fellow believers and other religions.

What is a Spiritual Medium, and How Do They Talk to Heaven?

Being a Spiritual medium and talking to Heaven, so to speak, is one of the great joys of my life and of my career as a professional intuitive and empath. It has been profoundly exciting to share the fact that we never die with individuals who may be a bit scared of death or somewhat mystified about the Other Side. We may lose our bodies when we die, and yet we live on, and often with the same spunky personalities, as is always made clear to me when I act as a spiritual medium.

As a spiritual medium, I always empathize with the tears of emotion that come when sharing intimate, often mundane details that only a client's deceased loved one would know. It continues to amaze and amuse me when this happens. Just the other day I spoke with a very funny and jovial young man who recently passed over who told me to tell my client (his mom) "How ya doing down there?" She responded with a smile; this was one of his favorite sayings while in this life on Earth. Helping grieving individuals know that their loved ones are safe is a tremendously rewarding aspect of working as a Spiritual medium.

When a spiritual medium has a conversation with someone who has crossed over, it is much the same as having a conversation with someone who speaks another language. We feel each other out and have to get creative in communicating across the worlds! They lose their ability to "speak English," so to speak. They speak in feelings, memories, and emotions. Any good medium will be able to perceive those sensations and help you make sense of what they are receiving.

I always ask my clients to help me make sense of the images, sounds, phrases, and especially the feelings and emotions that I receive when I act as a medium. Being a spiritual medium does not mean we know all the answers. In fact, it may be the reverse. We receive information that often will make no sense to us, and yet, we share it with the client in the hope that it will make sense or have meaning. Usually it does, sometimes it does not. It's been my experience that some of the 20 percent that usually doesn't make sense is meant for a later time period. Often your Spirit guides and your deceased relatives will be giving you future "signposts" to watch out for.

Mediumship is one unique branch of psychic phenomena. A spiritual medium has the ability to communicate with discarnate entities and use their finely tuned senses to recognize the higher vibrations of the spirit world. Communication between realms is done entirely through creating and sending vibrations and frequencies in the heart chakra, not through actual physical voice (although sometimes I will hear distinct phrases in my mind). Mediumship is also a skill that can be tested and verified. As a Ph.D. trained scientist, I can certainly appreciate that! For more information about Spiritual Mediumship, check out the Lily Dale Assembly's website.

There is sometimes a misconception that just because a person passes over to the Other Side, that means that this spirit is automatically enlightened. That is not necessarily the case. We often retain our Earthly personalities for a while after passing, including the unique quirks that make us individuals. The quirks can sometimes include the good (humor!) and the not so good (self-centeredness), depending on the evolution of the spirit. One of the things that any good medium must discern is who to listen to. A good spiritual medium will not take just anyone's advice who happens to walk by in the Spirit World. There are spirits and energetic entities around us constantly; some of those spirits are more developed and more aware than others.

This is just the beginning of the wonderful world of being a Spiritual Medium. I will look forward to offering more information on the exiting world of mediumship - please visit my website for information.

Effortless Ways to Make Fast Money

Let's face it - every one of us wants to have money fast. As impossible the notion is, it is still possible to do, although certain luck, research and effort are needed on one's part. After all, no person can actually make money slacking off the couch - or are there? Are there effortless ways to make fast money? You are about to find out shortly.

To be frank, there are ways to make fast money. For starters, you can gamble on online casinos, or offline casinos near you. Here, luck and some skills are your factors. You can win a lot, but still have a great chance to lose a lot of money as well. Another way to make fast money is to do short term jobs, or those jobs involving sales and commissions. Although with decent pay, these jobs have no guarantees of acquiring large sums of money in a short time. If you want to do so, then you should consider purchasing stocks.

In business, there will always be risks. This is the same as in purchasing stocks. Not all stocks that you plan to invest on are winners - some stocks increase in value; some stocks decrease in value; while most others have generally little or no movement in value. Certain stocks, however, can considerably increase in value within a short period of time. If you research on the stocks or company that you are planning to invest, and generally determine correctly the value of your stocks in the future, then that is how you can make fast money.

The value of some specific stocks can double or triple within a short span of time. The key to making big and fast earnings is to know which stocks to invest. The solution: invest first in an automated stock selection program that can predict and identify correctly which stocks are worth investing on and trading to. Look for a reliable stock program to purchase, and get started on investing on stocks with confidence.

Why waste your time trying to learn what stocks to invest in when you can follow a proven program?

Make Money Taking Photos - How to Make Money Taking Photos Even If You're Not a Photographer

Sure! As long as you have a digital camera, a computer and internet connection, then you have what it takes to make money taking photos. I know what you're thinking. If you're not a professional photographer, how on earth can you make money with your digital photos?

The answer lies in stock photo websites. You might not be familiar with all of the technical terms, but if you manage to take good pictures every now and then, you don't have to worry about a thing. By following these simple steps, I'm confident that you can and will make money taking photos!

What are stock photos?

First of all, stock photos are pictures used for all kinds of presentations and advertising materials. You might have some of them already installed in your computer (programs like Adobe usually have great stock photos).

These images usually come with key words that can help categorize them all. For example, a picture of a handshake and one of a thumbs up can fall under "Business." Some keywords are even as specific as "American Food" or "Asian Business."

Now that I know what stock photos are, what comes next?

There are a lot of stock photo websites that cater to different tastes and needs. Your job is to submit your photos to these websites, so that they can sell them to companies or individuals who need original images for their presentation or advertising material.

Most of these websites ask for an uncompressed image of at least quality 8 in Photoshop. You are only allowed to submit your original creations. This is how you make money taking photos.

How do I increase the chances of my photos getting accepted?

You can learn a lot just by browsing through all the other photos in these websites. Don't be intimidated by the idea of putting your snapshots out there. Your fellow photographers have just learned how to make money taking photos, and you can leverage from their knowledge and experience.

One way you can get ahead of everybody else is by being creative with your pictures. You can use symbolism and make sure your images are 100% sharp (unless blurriness is your concept).

Do not take pictures of anything with copyrights attached to it (such as logos) or with anyone. Any person in the picture (or the owner of the logo) should sign a model release to ensure that you have their permission to include and sell any photo where they (or their copyrighted image) are included. Since this could be a big hassle, it might be a good idea to avoid taking snapshots of anything with people or logos in them.

The more you take pictures, the sooner you'll find your niche in photography. The Internet offers a wide variety of opportunities for budding photographers. Take advantage of this and start to make money taking photos. This is just a start-up guide, but you'll soon find out that there's a lot more you can explore as you become more familiar with stock photography.

Make Money Blogging - Profit Potential

It sounds unbelievable, but simple blogs being set up by everyday men and women are raking in tens of thousands of dollars each month in ad revenue and selling for upwards of $15 million. But does this mean Joe Blogger can set up his own average blog and make money blogging the same way these special cases do? If you go about it the right way, you can!

If you want to cash in with a blog of big buck proportions, then you want to set it up from start to finish in a way that helps you make money blogging through sales links, but also attracts advertisers and buyers to make you an offer you can't refuse.

A blog can be set up in mere minutes. You register a domain (or use a free site like WordPress or Blogger), point your servers to your hosting company, click the Fantastico blog button, and it's live!

From that point on, the secret to helping you make money blogging is in the details. What theme will you use? What layout? Do you ping or not? If this all sounds foreign to you, then don't worry - it's really simple once you have the right guidance.

What will you need to commit to as a part time or full time professional blogger?

1.) Frequency - you have to blog on a regular basis, which might mean weekly, but it's best if it's daily. The more you blog, the more often search engines visit your site.

2.) Laws - know the laws surrounding images and copyrights that you need to adhere to.

3.) Consumer needs - if you don't know what your readers want to know about, then your readership will suffer.

If your goal is to be the next Perez Hilton, whose blog is rumored to make over $50,000 a month in ad space, or sell your blog like Bankoholic.com's owner just did for a cool $15 mil, then you'll want to discover the intricate details of adding the best bells and whistles to your blog.

At first, you may only make a few dollars a day in AdSense revenue, but your blog will quickly become fodder for the search engine spiders like Googlebots, who will hand deliver buyers and advertisers to your virtual door with a knock and a fist full of cash for you to consider.

To learn how to make money blogging, check out http://www.FastBloggingMoney.com and put your powers to the test to see if you have what it takes to blog your way to big bucks!

Guided Visualization - Discover Your Future Self

A client enters my office full of fear, self-doubt, and ambivalence about her present relationship. She has spent years vacillating between staying with her boyfriend and breaking up with him. She seems to have this inner knowing that she must move on but her fears keep her in the relationship.

Now she is beginning to have not only emotional issues but physical symptoms, as well. She states she is having panic attacks that are making her life unmanageable and unbearable. We explore whether or not these panic attacks could be a sign that she may not be living truthfully. We talk about the fact that this gut level pain may be an inner wisdom or knowing that it is truly time to make the move, face the fear, and to live more fully and authentically.

She decides to embark on a journey of Guided Visualization as a tool to get her where she wants to goa life of peace, serenity, and purpose. She decides to use it as a way to tap into her most inner truths that consciously she has not been able to experience.

Guided Visualization can also be called Guided Imagery or Guided Meditation. Often we get stuck believing that if we dont meditate perfectly we wont reach enlightenment or experience any type of moving spiritual experience.

There are many forms of meditating rituals, from chanting to breathing exercises. One can light candles and incense to meditating on prayer beads or in nature. All of these meditations can work with there not being one right way to meditate. We no longer need to take the journey to Tibet to practice Guided Imagery or mediation.

Guided Visualization is just one method of meditating. It can include all the senses: sight, sound, smell, taste, and feeling. Imagery describes the intertwining of sensory awareness with a perceptual experience.

When these two forces are combined, a total relaxation state of awareness becomes possible. This allows for insights to be realized and solutions to be resolved which might not have been possible in the conscious mind.
Guided visualizations can take many forms including using a script, buying a CD with someone elses calming voice to guide them through the meditation or hiring an instructor who specializes in guided visualizations. Often hypnotherapists, psychotherapists, or spiritual healers can help guide this process.

Another form of guided visualizations can be repeating positive affirmations that are statements designed to counteract negative thinking. In essence, it is a type of positive self-talk to help eliminate the negative messages and thoughts often we tell ourselves that are usually false and have no basis in reality.

A popular acronym used to describe this type of faulty thinking is FEAR (False Evidence Appearing Real). In other words, most likely, our thoughts are just that, thoughts, and a story need not be attached to these thoughts.

Often individuals with eating disorders, substance abuse, anxiety, and other addictions struggle with these types of self-deprecating thinking. Positive affirmations allow them to replace these self-defeating thoughts.
For example, make a list of positive affirmations and say them out loud or post them on a sticky note pad and place them throughout the house or wherever they will get noticed often. Transforming these negative thoughts is a powerful tool for change.

Examples of positive affirmations to combat anxious, obsessive, or fearful thoughts might look like this: I am learning to consciously and mindfully choose what I think and I chose thoughts that are supportive and beneficial to me.

Another affirmation might be I am learning to let go of fears or I will deal with this one day at a time and I do not need to get attached to this story I have created. Other affirmations might be intuitive or have a spiritual dimension such as I can provide a space and holding place in my mind that transcends fear to a place of faith and fulfillment or No matter what has happened in the past, I can surrender to a spirit that is providing with me renewal and healing for my highest good. Or, I am grateful to all the experiences in my life that have shaped me to be the person I am today.

Believing in these affirmations is sacred, personal and divine and anyone is capable of creating their own positive affirmations to meet the needs of their own personal journey. The woman with the panic attacks might create an affirmation such as Each day I am gaining more confidence in myself and I can handle any situation or decision that comes my way. Perhaps this affirmation can help her see that she is capable of making powerful changes in her life; even ones that are painful, such as letting go of a relationship that is no longer working.

All of these tools such as guided visualization, guided meditation, and positive affirmations allow anyone to tap into their own powerful mind. These experiences are the ultimate connection between mind, body, and spirit. It is a perfect example of how positive self-talk works or what some New Age individuals might call the Law of Attraction. The more energy concentrated on a particular thought such as fear, the more that thought will draw circumstances where fear is present. If we expend more energy on positive thoughts, most likely we will draw into our lives outcomes that are more positive.

Guided Visualization has become a mainstream phenomenon. It has been used in schools, hospitals, government settings and in the corporate world.

Guided Visualizations has been known to not only reduce stress, but can also boost the immune system, treat mental health, substance abuse and medical problems such as lowering blood pressure and stress hormones in the blood, reduce severe symptoms of pain, insomnia, or help someone cope with a life threatening illness. Although the illness may be permanent, Guided Visualizations can help change the attitude from suffering to one of peace and serenity to help eliminate the struggle.

Guided Visualizations can also be used to make major lifestyle changes such as quitting smoking or losing weight. It can be the antidote to promote wellness and optimize overall health. It can be utilized to improve ones success at a job, reduce phobias such as fear of flying, driving freeways or public speaking. In fact, this author used a guided visualization to get over the anxiety and stress of taking a licensing exam and it worked!

Guided visualizations can take us on a mysterious journey to where we want to go or to where we dare to dream. We can discover what our real purpose is and what we have come here to do.

By letting go and surrendering to such a profound level of deep relaxation, all of our inner wisdom and inner knowing can surface up so that we may be able to live the life we have never thought possible. However, Guided Visualizations is only the first step. We must also take the action and do the footwork focusing on achieving what it is we long for.

The following are some simple strategies to follow when practicing a Guided Visualization.
1. Set your goal.

2. Breathe.

3. Be present and show up fully.

4. Establish intention and energy as to what you desire.

5. Practice. Practice. Practice.

As one anonymous writer once said, Watch your thoughts, for they become words. Chose your words for they become actions, for they become habits. Study your habits, for they become your character. Develop your character, for it becomes your destiny.

Small Things Lead To Change

Affirmation and Your Posture

Affirmation, the process of making the words you use to describe your life tangible in the material world, has a significant impact on your health. In other articles, we've discussed the different choices a person might make from a world of "Why not?" versus from "Why bother?" This time, we'll explore how language creates the shape of your physical body.

As a structural bodyworker, this little puzzle compelled me to learn more about how energy and health go together. I am admittedly rather obsessed with posture! Why? Because I want to know what makes you hurt! In evaluating different pain patients over the years, I became extremely curious about the cause and effect of posture.

Problem posture is a primary cause for any number of common pain patterns, like back pain, neck pain, and chronic headaches to name just a few. Realizing that a person doesn't just wake up one morning *bing* with problem posture, I started to inquire about how it comes about. Sometimes, of course, the process begins with physical trauma such as an accident.

Other times, no such explanation can be found. The problem posture seemingly "just happens." Exploring further, it quickly became obvious that a person's habitual frame of mind has a lot to do with the position of their body in space. This is where the affirmation comes in.

Affirmation is the process of "making firm." You are probably already aware of a human phenomenon we sometimes call "that little voice in the back of your head." It entertains you constantly with a recital of thoughts, beliefs, and ideas. Unless you do something to influence it, that recital becomes a continuous flow that creates your experience here. It also creates your posture.

  • "Why do they keep doing this to me?" turns into protection of your solar plexus (right below the ribs in the middle of your abdomen), caved chest, and a forward head posture. You'll most likely have headaches, neck pain, upper back pain, and you just might hurt all over.
  • "Oh no. This is gonna go my way!" creates the opposite pattern. Too much lumbar curve (your low back), very straight upper back, and a loss of curve in the neck. You will most likely have lower back pain. If it's combined with any kind of a twisting pattern, you'll very likely become a candidate for back surgery, because you will have worn out your L4 / L5 disc prematurely. You may have some neck issues, and your upper back will hurt, too.
  • Lead with your chin?
  • Habitual pleaser who can't make up your own mind?

There is a common inner language for any number of excessive personality traits. This inner language creates a particular state of mind in the speaker. Whether that person believes he needs to shield against a never-ending onslaught of bullies or be perpetually ready to stand up and fight, the body will make itself ready to respond.

Muscles are the agents of this system. If your mind tells you, "Here it comes! You're about to be attacked and there's no way out!" then your abdomen and chest muscles will reflexively contract to protect your solar plexus, just like a boxer protecting himself from a disabling punch.

If your mind tells you, "This guy is not gonna pull one over on you today. What does he think you are, stupid?" then your chest will puff out and your lower back tighten as you prepare to hold your ground, no matter what the cost.

Muscles create the motion. If they do it frequently and repetitively, as they surely will, your bones will begin to change shape in an effort to make the position easier to maintain. Unfortunately, making a dysfunctional pattern easy to maintain isn't really doing you a great favor. By the time you develop a chronic pain pattern, things will be very well entrenched.

But ... there is a way out. You have a secret weapon. Affirmation.

Chances are if you do develop a chronic pain problem, you'll visit some kind of practitioner for help with it. A chiropractor, perhaps, or a physical therapist, massage therapist, or a member of one of the medical specialties that deals with pain. They'll suggest strategies to help you with the physical symptoms. A series of adjustments, mechanical changes, injections, medicines, or perhaps even surgery.

None is likely to suggest that you explore your habitual state of being. Hopefully by now you understand its effect on the situation. So, no big deal. You can create a positive affirmation yourself. Here's how:

  1. Notice the common language your own "little voice" uses to describe your life.
  2. If it's not healthy and balanced, then create an opposite statement. For example, if you repetitively hear something like "I'm just filling space here," change it up to "I make a real difference to the people around me." Your statement should, when fulfilled, create the world as you want it.
  3. As you hear your mind mechanically reciting the "old" statement, replace it with the new one. It really is that simple.

Your posture may not completely transform overnight. However the other therapies that you engage in will be more likely to work. Their effects will last longer. Your body will begin to flow with, rather than resist, the desired change. And you'll find yourself feeling much better.

What Is Rune Magic?

Magic Rune Symbols

I have been trying to share with you the importance of bringing the Runes and the gods/goddesses of the North into the 21st Century.

No longer should we run around in the woods with our axes and swords, drinking mead (unless we want to for FUN), asking the gods/goddesses to help us. If we had the power to invoke Odin, Thor or TYR into our blot or our rituals. What would we do with them?

We can't sic them on the outside world.

What we need to do is attract the Wisdom of Odin, the Strength of Thor and the Courage of Tyr...

INTO OUR OWN LIVES.... INTO OUR OWN AURAS....

Then we will be 21st Century Odin's, Thor's and Tyr's.

It is the age of doing it ourselves.

Runes and Odin and the gods/goddesses of the North belong in the 21st Century, in the Age of Aquarius, the Age of the Internet and Quantum Physics.

No longer can we pray to them to do it for us. We must ask them how to do it and give us the energies to do it with.

It is erroneous to keep the Runes shackled to the Viking Age.

All the literature we have about the magic of runes is shadowed in parables, paradoxes and enigmas.

The Laws of Quantum Physics broke through the mystery of the magic of runes symbols.

Runes were never meant for divination.

Runes were never meant to be used as an alphabet.

Runes are Universal Creative Energies. Magical rune symbols are just that. Magical symbols that connect us to the runic energy of the Quantum Ocean (Mind of God).

True Rune Symbols

The 18 Rune Futhork of Guido von List are true rune symbols.

Here are some Rune Symbol definitions that will share with you the reasons why Rune Symbols are powerful and magical.

* A Rune Symbol is a body containing a soul. (outline body of rune containing the soul of the living rune energies.)

* A Rune Symbol is matter holding a meaning. (Rune outline plus meaning of runes.)

* A Rune Symbol is a foci of force. (each rune symbol embodies several runic energies.)

* A Rune Symbol is a condenser of consciousness. (takes a piece of the consciousness of the Quantum Ocean (Mind of God) and condenses it into a runic form.)

* A Rune Symbol is a thought tank. (by meditating on the rune you can pull useful runic thoughts out of the Quantum Ocean (Mind of God).

* Magical rune symbols are energy exchanges between very different levels of worlds and the intelligent beings operating through them. (you and the world of the runes.)

It is the runic energy, runic meanings, runic associations and life-force packed into any rune symbol that makes it alive and functional for you. Odin only rediscovered the runes. They go farther back than the Viking Age.

To be a rune master you must constantly nourish your deeper inner being with higher levels of frequencies from the runic energy levels.

Seek the Runes ---- or die!

Let's look at some definitions of Rune Magic.

* Rune Magic is bringing down higher laws into the present time.

* Rune Magic is causing action at a distance without having to use a physical object.

* Rune Magic makes use of the Law of Resonant Frequencies and Life-force.

* Rune Magic allows life-force to flow between similar and congruent bodies.

* Rune Magic is the ability to allow run energies to flow from the Quantum Ocean (Mind of God) into your body and life.

* Rune Magic will break the shackles of poverty; release the bondage of disease; end the misery of failure.

To be successful in Rune Magic you need three operating forces.

Runic Energy --- A Rune Symbol

Target --- Your Photo

Life-force --- the power of your mind.

When you sit in your chair and meditate and look at a magical rune symbol, you are creating a:

Living Runic Thought Form

Your mind has provided the power to connect the rune symbol in your hands and the runic energies in the Quantum Ocean and bring them into your body and life.

You have the three ingredients you need to perform rune magic.

Runic energies which are specific frequencies in the Quantum Ocean

This newly created Runic Thought Form will now be part of your energy field.

This Runic Thought Form will cybernetic ally seek out and achieve its goals.

Rune Uruz (Health) example:

If it is Rune Uruzenergy you attracted into your aura, this Runic Thought Form will seek out the cause of the ill health within your body. It will then attract to you the people, places and events you will need to cure yourself.

Whenever you use Rune Magic to help achieve your desires, the universe decides upon the details of how to obtain it.

While this is all going on outside of you, the Rune Uruz energy inside of your aura will dissolve the energy blockages that caused your illness.

You must be open and aware to new ideas, people, thoughts, feelings and places brought to you by the Runic Thought Form.

Rune Magic allows you to develop your spiritual and psychic powers.

With your ability to attract rune energies you can now attract health, wealth and love into your life now.

Remember runes are an energy. They are Universal Creative Energies.

The runes reside in the infinite Quantum Ocean (Mind of God) where time does not exist. There is no past, present nor future. Only the now!

One thousand years ago Odin the All-Father hung for 9 days and nights on the Yggdrasil Tree. He finally reached into the Quantum Ocean (Mind of God) and rediscovered the runes for us.

Christianity has constantly tried to wipe out all information on the runes.

Guido von List, a German Rune master, in the twentieth century had a cataract operation. As he lay in his bed blinded he too reached into the Quantum Ocean (Mind of God) and once again rediscovered the runes for us. The Arman en Runes.

This website is about Runes and Runic Energies with practical information you can use to attract health, wealth and love into your life now.

Rune Magic uses runes as keys to the Universal Energies of Creation. Runes were used for spiritual purposes long before anyone used then to write.

Rune Magic helps you to get in touch with worlds and energies far beyond your everyday life.

Runes are energies that preceded language.

This page gives you some of the reasons why Rune Magic works.

I have many pages on Rune Meditations, Rune Yoga, Rune Rituals, etc, that will show you have to attract Rune Energies into your life now.

Rune Magic is very powerful and you can use it to attract health, wealth and love now.

Ellis Peterson AKA Ragnar Storyteller (earned Viking name) is 72 and a skald and rune master. He is a retired math professor and electrical engineer. Are You Smarter Than a Buddha?

I am waiting for a new show to appear titled 'Are you smarter than a Buddha?' Or 'Are you smarter than an enlightened Master?'

There seems to be an enormous amount of debate going on at the moment in regards to what makes someone 'Spiritual' or 'Enlightened'. I can imagine turning the page of a glossy magazine and finding a quiz one day.

How to tell if you are Enlightened
1. You are faced with a body of water such as an ocean do you
a) Jump in and drown
b) Hire a boat or
c) Walk on water

2. The postal service delivers your Christmas present from Grandma and it has been damaged beyond repair do you
a) Proceed to strangle the postal worker
b) Apologize profusely for Grandmas inability to wrap a present properly or
c) Forgive the postal worker for his sins

If you answered C to both questions go to the sliding scale of spiritualism on your left and move the arrow to 10. Congratulations you are an enlightened being.

I am afraid I cannot be very spiritual because I would probably answer A to both questions.

This goes to show just how ridiculous it is to try and pin the tail on the enlightened beings.

Knowledge seems to be a criteria for being spiritual the more books you read the more courses you participate in the more you fill your ego mind up with concepts laws secrets the more you will be held in an enlightened light.

I wonder though who is on this exclusive selection committee....whose measuring stick are we using? Is the Christian more spiritual than the Zen Master is the Catholic more privy to secrets of the universe than the Pagan?

Who gets to decide the criteria for being Spiritual or having reached enlightenment? I want to be on that committee!!!! I am sorry your application for enlightened being has been rejected on the grounds your humanity is always showing. I am sorry we are full up with enlightened beings at the moment please come back later someone is bound to slip up and have their membership terminated.

I like to think I am living my life to the best of my ability that I am walking my talk speaking my truth and honoring the right of others to do the same. Am I enlightened? Probably not.

Am I spiritual well that would depend on whose ruler you were using to measure me. Sometimes I wonder if there was a contest on the back of the Cereal Box I didn't see.... Win an eternity of heavenly joy simply fill out the forms stating in 200 words or less why you are a Spiritual or Enlightened being.

I suppose I shall muddle along the best I can a mere mortal full of human imperfections and contradictions walking the pathway of life, trying not to bump into the pedestals of those enlightened beings I meet along the way.

Okay I confess I am being cynical and sarcastic probably not traits one would find in a Spiritual person you would think. However I get tired of a Spiritual movement that gets more exclusive by the minute instead of widening its doors its saying you have to be.....

Well "I am" and so is everyone else on the planet and having knowledge or doing something a certain way others don't doesn't make me anything but a person doing something different. Two roads diverged in the forest and someone stuck a sign on one saying this way to enlightenment.

10 Tips For Spiritual Growth

Spiritual growth is the process of inner awakening, and becoming conscious our inner being. It means the rising of the consciousness beyond the ordinary existence, and awakening to some Universal truths. It means going beyond the mind and the ego and realizing who you really are.

Spiritual growth is a process of shedding our wrong and unreal conceptions, thoughts, beliefs and ideas, and becoming more and more conscious and aware of our inner being. This process uncovers the inner spirit that is always present, but hidden beyond the ego-personality.

Spiritual growth is of great importance for everyone, not only for people who seek spiritual enlightenment and choose to live in far away or secluded places. Spiritual growth is the basis for a better and more harmonious life for everyone, a life free of tension, fear and anxiety.

By discovering who we really are we take a different approach to life. We learn not to let outer circumstances influence our inner being and state of mind. We manifest composure and detachment, and we develop inner power and strength, all of which are very useful and important tools.

Spiritual growth is not a means for escaping from responsibilities, behaving strangely and becoming an impractical person. It is a method of growing and becoming a stronger, happier and more responsible person.

You can walk on the path of spiritual growth, and at the same time live the same kind of life as everyone else. You do not have to live a secluded life in some far away place. You can raise a family, work or run a business, and yet at the same time engage in practices that lead to inner growth.

A balanced life requires that we take care not only of the necessities of the body, feelings and mind, but also of the spirit, and this is the role of spiritual growth.

10 tips for spiritual growth:

1. Read spiritual and uplifting books. Think about what you read, and find out how you can use the information in your life.

2. Meditate for at least 15 minutes every day. If you do not know how to meditate, it is easy to find books, websites or teachers who can teach you meditation.

3. Learn to make your mind quiet through concentration exercises and meditation.

4. Acknowledge the fact that you are a spirit with a physical body, not a physical body with a spirit. If you can really accept this idea, it will change your attitude towards many things in your life.

5. Look often into yourself and into your mind, and try to find out what is it that makes you feel conscious and alive.

6. Think positive. If you find yourself thinking negatively, immediately switch to thinking positively. Be in control of what enters your mind. Open the door for the positive and close it for the negative.

7. Develop the happiness habit, by always looking at the bright side of life and endeavoring to be happy. Happiness comes from within. Do not let your outer circumstances decide your happiness for you.

8. Exercise often your will power and decision making ability. This strengthens you and gives you control over your mind.

9. Thank the Universe for everything that you get.

10. Develop tolerance, patience, tact and consideration for others.

Spiritual growth is the birthright of everyone. It is the key to a life of happiness and peace of mind, and the manifesting the enormous power of the inner spirit. This spirit is equally present within the most material person, and within the most spiritual person. The level of the manifestation of spirituality is dependent on how much the inner spirit is close to the surface, and on how much it is covered and hidden, by thoughts, beliefs and negative habits.

How Can Grandparents Help in the Parenting of Your Child?

In Singaporean society where both the father and the mother have their own careers, parenting of the child often involves the grandparents. They can definitely aid you in bringing up your child but there could also be some tricky issues involved. We shall look at these in our entry today: Benefits of the Grandparents in parenting your child:

Lightening the load of busy working parents. I've seen grandparents bringing and fetching the children from school, cooking lunch and attending to all these basic needs when the parents are working in their offices.

Overall development of the child. Needless to say, the grandparents can virtually spend all their time interacting, caring, teaching and playing with the child. New skills can be picked up and strong bonds can be formed too.

Another perspective of parenting. Grandparents are huge sources of experiences and wisdom, and they could have their own way of handling children, some of which most parents may not know of these days. Then again, the relationship between parents and grandparents in the parenting of the child is not as smooth sailing. In fact, I've experienced some of the problems myself as a child when my grandparents had the chance to baby sit me.

Below is a compilation of what I've recalled and also some pointers my friends had chipped in:

1. Taking a backseat. Many grandparents want to contribute to the parenting of the grandchild and find it hard to accept that they have to take a less active role. As such, quarrels may arise between both parties.

2. Respect their habits. Alright, I've seen this drama serial on Channel 8, 9pm. The parents literally placed the child in the care of the grandparents, as such, affecting their daily routine. Example: The grandparents are not used to having warm water and air con in the presence of the child.

3. Communications. Arguments may surface and communicating well is important. Hearing each other out, staying courteous without shouting and coming to a compromise are just some of the ways to avoid conflicts.

4. Responsibility. The main role of parenting should ultimately fall into the hands of the parents. Grandparents are just to fill in the gaps. Remember not to just leave everything to your grandparents, you have to fulfill your responsibilities as parents! Here is a clip about good grandparenting.

Impotency Is A Very Serious Condition

Impotency as a condition may arise if a male has any defect (whether right from birth or due to any accident or for any other reason) or due to castration, is without [the two testes] then he does not have virile greenness which will lead to erection of the stem to its full strength. For this reason the stem cannot become erect, to satisfy the woman because it has lost the wind of its powers. This will render it useless for it does not have the strength to complete the task of producing an offspring. The situation is similar to a plough that is unable to dig up soil if it is without a plough share. Impotence affects 10-15 percent of all males in any society and can be emotionally and psychologically disabling for men and their family which also includes their spouses. In 80% of impotence cases, physical factors such as drugs, nerve impulse abnormalities or hormonal abnormalities are the major causes. Psychological factors also account for the some 20% remaining cases and may be attributed to stress, performance anxiousness, and misinformation about sexuality.

Impotence can be cured and an impotent man can lead a normal love life if he agrees to undergo treatment to cure his condition. Some of the treatments available for impotency include Sildenafil citrate (Viagra TM). Viagra TM is the first approved non-surgical treatment for impotency that does not have to be either injected or inserted directly into the penis to achieve and maintain erection. It is approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for prescription sale by the end of the quarter March, 1998. Viagra is a medication which not directly causes penile erection, but affects the response to sexual stimulation. Precaution should be taken that if you are taking medications that contain nitrates, such as nitroglycerin, then you should not use Viagra. The two taken together can cause low blood pressure. An impotent person can alternatively use Prostaglandalins or Palavering injections to inject directly into the penis. There is also one pellet like Prostaglandalins whic5B2h can be inserted in the urethra and help to cause erections.

Testosterone replacement therapy is also used to improve energy, mood, and increase muscle mass and weight, and heighten sexual interest in older men... But this supplementation is not recommended for men who have normal testosterone levels for at their age group there is a risk of prostate enlargement and other side effects too. The best way to overcome impotency is by using the hypnotherapy. No artificial medicines are required, no surgery required and hence no side-effects and a person can act normally, and behave normally. No artificial tensions about performance with the opposite sex which will enhance the performance and build the confidence of the person.

There are many more cures available in the market and advertised for on the internet but hypnotherapy is the safest one. You just have to download the compact disc and follow the steps that will enhance your potency. It's the most safe and easy way. This will cure a person permanently and help him to lead a normal life. Hypnotherapy for impotency is safe and can be trusted. The best thing being it does not call for painful surgical procedures or the use of medication that could have severe side effects. Hypnosis will help you get your sexual life back into full swing.

Sure Ways of Naturally Boosting Your IQ

These may seem like odd questions to consider, but there are several ways in which to raise your intelligence quotient (IQ) that dont require poring over books of arithmetic, reciting Shakespearian sonnets, or memorizing dates of Civil War battles.

Of course, these exercises will helpbut not according to several psychologists and sociologists who believe that trying to raise ones IQ is a fruitless endeavor.

According to their studies, which have been published in a number of journals and books, intellectual ability is predetermined based on genetics. In other words, it doesnt matter what brain exercises or educational endeavors you may be pursuing or wish to pursue, intelligence is a fixed thing that cannot be altered.

As youll discover in the electronic manual, this assertion couldnt be further from the truth.

What is true is that ones intelligence level is determined by a variety of factors, not just intellectual ability. While many still believe that heritability determines IQ (youll find out in the e-guide why this is a myth) the most determinant factors are those from the environment, like nutrition (particularly in the pre-natal stages), family experiences, economic status as well as the surroundings one places themselves in adolescent and adult years.

All these factors play a role in the overall intelligence level of a person, but intelligence is not like height: stopping once you reach a level. Education and learning never stops; provided one takes the initiative in building up his or her own intelligence quotient through research.

And by reading this, youre doing just that.

Inside the electronic e-guide, youll discover a host of methods in which to boost your IQ naturally. Youll find out exactly why ones intelligence level is not fixed (like some social scientists would have you believe), why journal writing is so effective in boosting intelligence, the efficacy of herbal remedies in IQ development, foods that keep your mind sharp (and those that will dull your mind), how physical exercise improves mental acuity, how to make your kids smarter and much, much more!

How To Have A Better Life

Is it easy to create a better life? I don't know. Maybe even thinking about how difficult or easy it is means one isn't ready to commit to making it happen. Easy is such a vague word anyhow. What I can say from personal experience, is that it is possible to dramatically improve ones life in almost any area.

Yes, big changes are difficult, but there are many easy steps in the process. Changing one's habits may take a long time, but there is always something5B4 that can be done right now, isn't there? Start with these - the easier and the now. There is nothing useful about feeling overwhelmed.

If you wanted to quit cigarettes, alcohol, caffeine and complaining, you wouldn't expect to do so all at once, right? You might work on one bad habit, and once that was resolved, start on the next. So why not just make your life better today, however you can. Start small - seeing the results will give you the motivation for the big steps.

Better Life Today

It's easy to just look at things, and easy to think about them too, right? So start looking for specific ways to make your life better, and think about them - particularly about the positive consequences. You won't accomplish anything immediately by doing this, but you are preparing yourself. Just thinking about change sets your mind and your motivation in motion.

The next step is to translate those thoughts into simple actions. For example:

- If you want better brainpower, learn one problem solving technique.

- If you want to lose weight, walk the dog or remove one thing from your diet.

- If tired of your angry remarks, start counting to ten before saying anything.

- Want to get rich? Buy a book to help you.

- Want to get out of debt? Work an extra day each month, and apply the income to your debts.

- Have a bad attitude? List all the good things you have, and review it daily.

N5A0one of these actions are necessarily going to change much by themselves. They don't need to. They are just small steps that help. They help directly in their small way, and they help build the momentum that keeps you taking the next step and the next.

If you wanted to build a house, and you thought about the whole process, you might feel too overwhelmed to start. But it's easy to nail one board in place, right? And then one more, and one more... Any action that starts the process towards a better life is better than nothing, and plants the seeds of change.

Steve Gillman writes on many topics including brainpower, weight loss, meditation, habits of mind, creative problem solving, generating luck and anything related to self improvement. Learn more and get FREE e-courses at http://www.SelfImprovementNow.com

What You Should Know About Time Management and College Students

The pressure of meeting multiple obligations in college can create stress and impact on a student's quality of life. Depending on your course commitments, it can be a challenge just to keep up with the volume of work let alone attend social events, spend time with family or work to earn some money. In order to get great grades and have more time for other activities you really need to be on top of your game. That's why you need to learn time management. Student time management helps you to better prepare and plan how you spend your time.

When it comes to time management and college students, productivity is the key. If you are easily distracted or take longer than you should to complete tasks then you need to become more effective and efficient. If you add up the time that gets wasted due to procrastination it is possible to waste an entire day due to poor study and organizational skills. In order to improve your effectiveness you need to learn student time management. This will help you to become more effective with your use of time.

Student time management will teach you how to structure and prepare a schedule. What is called for is an allocation of priorities. By knowing ahead of time what your main priorities are you can ensure that they get attended to first. Prioritization helps you to deal with tasks when they need to be done. Just about every student can relate to having to cram or put in an all nighter just to finish a paper or prepare for a test. The purpose of the schedule is to avoid this scenario. By staying on top of your course requirements you can finish your assignments ahead of the due date and better prepare for tests.

Time management for students also helps you to establish your personal strengths and weaknesses. Some students work better in the morning whilst others are more effective at night. By knowing which scenario applies to you, you have a much better chance of creating a schedule that allows you to get the most work done when you are most productive. This is an important principle that is often overlooked. If you find yourself struggling with your study or focus you might need to examine how you go about your study. It is possible that you just need to switch around your approach to avoid pushing yourself when you are unproductive. It is better to schedule recreation or downtime when you need to recharge.

Student time management also encompasses goal setting. Setting goals is a way to benchmark your progress. If you want to get great grades to get your perfect job then you will need to be well organized to provide sufficient time for study. Learning to study bite sized chunks of new material can help you with your retention rate. This superior technique helps you to commit the work to long term memory and eliminates the trouble that many students have with absorbing high amounts of material in a very short space of time.

Take the time to learn student time management. It could be the single most important skill you can acquire to help you get great grades and enjoy your college life.

Article Writing - What's in it For Me?

How many times have you gone through an article and read about how great a certain item or service is, gotten through the whole article, and come out wondering what exactly it was going to do for you? If you have, you know how annoying it is. The person who wrote the article focused so much on trying to sell this product and they forgot to tell you what it was that the product was going to do for you.

This particular mistake is something that a lot of writers make, whether they intend to do it or not. And it can be a very costly mistake. Let's look at the facts.

People want to know

People want to know what something is going to do for them. They want to know that they are going to get their money's worth and that the item is going to do something for them.

Selling points

One of the biggest selling points that articles are going to have when it comes to items is what they are going to do for someone. No matter how good an item is played up on a piece of paper, if people don't see the bottom line of what it's going to do for them they aren't going to be interested.

So make sure that when you are writing an article about an item, make sure you tell people in the article what benefits they are going to get from the item. This is going to make them more likely to purchase the item and make your article more of a success.

Indoor Winter Display of Bulbs

You can have an attractive arrangement of flowers in your home throughout winter and spring if you plant bulbs in ornamental pots that have been filled with fibre.

The bulbs should be planted into the pots as soon as they are available, usually in August through to early September, in order for them to be successful. The purpose-made fibre should be made damp before it is placed into the bowl. Prior to this, a few pieces of charcoal should be placed into the bowl. The tips of the bulbs should be just visible when they are set into position in the fibre.

Place the bulbs in a cool position to ensure that the roots develop freely. The ideal position is outdoors beneath a 9 inch mound of peat, or covered with sacking and a piece of board to prevent rain getting in.

Should it not be possible to place the bulbs outdoors, they should be placed in a deep box or bath in the coolest possible place and covered as per the outdoors method. Around 4 to 8 weeks later, root development should be considerable and shoots of about 2 inches should be evident. If this is so, the covering must be removed and the bulbs left until the shoots have turned green. "Forcing" can then commence, placing them in a warm room. The shoots will very quickly come into bloom provided the fibre is kept moist.

To ensure that the display is over an extended period of time, choose varieties carefully.

Hyacinths - The "Roman White" variety of hyacinth is the very first of this group to flower. It has blooms that look like white bluebells. Next after this variety are the prepared hyacinths - they have been specially treated to induce flowering at Christmas time.

The regular large-flowered, untreated hyacinths do not normally flower until the spring.

Narcissus

It is easy to obtain blooms from the Narcissus known as "Paper-white" in December and a succession of blooms can be maintained by numerous other kinds usually found in bulb catalogues.

Other varieties of this group force easily and are followed by other single early tulips.

Holiday Treatment of Room Plants

It can be a problem caring for room plants when you are away on holidays unless you can arrange for someone to water them. It is possible to prevent damage to the plants if you are away for a week or so, provided you take the proper precautions.

The best method is to fill a large bath or similar receptacle with damp moss, then place the potted plants deeply into this, with the moss covering the soil by about 1 to 2 inches. A product known as "granulated peat" or damp sacking can be used instead of the moss. The last step in this procedure is to cover the moistening material with polythene tissue or plastic sheeting to prevent the evaporation of moisture. Ensure that the plants have been well watered before they are plunged.

Another alternative front yard landscaping method is to place the plants in a group with a pail of water nearby, placing a piece of wick between the water source and each plant. This will ensure a constant water supply to the soil around the plant while maintaining an artistic presentation of the plants in your garden.

If you have access to a garden, the pots can be placed into the soil up to their rims, ensuring that a shady spot is chosen.

In each of these methods, you must ensure that the soil in the pot is well soaked with water before plunging is done or the plants are connected with the siphon-wicks.

What better time than right now to explore and learn more on the subject of front yard landscaping plan. Visit us at .plant-care.com.

Enhance Empathy to Create Harmony With Feng Shui

People strong in Earth are empathic, generous, cooperative, diplomatic, and dependable. All essential qualities to a balanced, rich life.

The area of the feng shui grid that houses Earth energy is the center "square" when you overlay the nine equal squares of the feng shui tic-tac-toe board on your floor plan. It is known as the Nurturing Area.

The symbol for this area is the sun, as life can only exist with its nurturing energy.

The most important parts of the home to assess regarding Nurturing/Earth energy are the Kitchen and the Family Room. Are they warmly inviting?

One way you can know if others find your Kitchen and Family Room inviting is if they hang out there. If they don't, it's not.

This may mean the furniture isn't as comfortable to them as it may be to you. Or the furniture may be comfortable, it just doesn't look comfortable. It could be the arrangement of the furniture. The lighting may be too strong, too weak, too glarey. Or perhaps, if you're very Earthy, there are so many accessories the eye has nowhere to rest.

The gentlest way to add Earth is through color. Earth colors are browns, yellows, peach, and taupe.

If you're low in Earth energy, consider starting a collection. A person strong in Wood will collect something useful like key chains or night lights. If you're strong in Metal you will be relieved to know a collection can be made up of as few as three items. Natural crystals selected for metaphysical reasons, first, and their beauty second, comprise a Watery collection.

Another aspect of Earth energy is groundedness. In feng shui this means furniture that looks heavy or is made of stone materials. Overstuffed sofas qualify. As do granite countertops, although the color of the granite may tip their elemental balance to another element.

The essence of a person strong in Earth is their deep and abiding desire for others to feel comfortable. Their biggest challenge is nurturing themselves, first. They love to feed people. People strong in Earth will have more serving dishes, platters, trays, and entertaining paraphernalia that people strong in the other four elements, combined.

Since the center of the grid is also where the Present time resides, it is important to look at what is in the center of your home, the Kitchen and Family Room. Do the items there support your Present life? Or does they tie you to your past? Are you reminded of your current and future goals or "ancient history"?

The Polar Express - What a Wonderful Story!

This book is a wonderful classic that we share every Christmas Eve.

Before going off to bed, my children, husband and I snuggle together to listen to William Hurt narrate this story as I turn the pages. We purchased this book through the advice of a old friend and we loved it from the first time we heard the story. Through his advice we created a tradition that has stayed with us for the last 18yrs!

The story begins with a boy who boards a train to the North Pole. Upon his arrival, Santa pulls him out of a large crowd of children and elves to choose any gift he desires for his gift, "The first gift of Christmas!". The boy chooses not a toy, not an item of great expense, but instead he chooses a bell from a reindeers harness. He loves this bell! He places it safely in his pyjama pocket so as not to lose it.

When the train drops him off at his home he reaches into his pocket for the bell only to find that it had fallen through a hole in his pocket. He tries to yell out to the conductor to tell him that he lost the bell, but he cannot hear him over the noise of the steaming horn of train. Instead he yells back to the boy to wish him a Merry Christmas.

He goes off to bed disappointed that Christmas is ruined. The following morning he gets up with his family to open gifts. After all the gifts have been opened, his mother finds a small box under the tree addressed to her son. As he opens this gift with curiosity he finds the bell with a note from Santa telling him to fix the hole in his pocket. He and his sister are so excited to find this bell. They shake the bell to hear it's glorious sound. As his mother admires this bell, she cannot hear the ringing of the bell and comments, "That's too bad. It's broken"

Is the bell really broken or can its sound only be heard by those who have the true spirit of Christmas?

Maybe this story will find a place into your Christmas traditions for you and your family to share.

Grandparents Don't Get to Choose

One of the greatest pleasures of life is having the opportunity to be grandparents. Since my son and his wife told us they were going to have a baby, we have been on cloud nine. When they came over to our house one evening to tell us, we really didn't expect any news like we were told. In fact, all we thought was that they just came for a visit.

Sitting down at the kitchen table, my wife was presented with what looked like a gift bag. She was surprised knowing that it wasn't her birthday, nor was it mother's day, nor was it an anniversary of any kind. But, what she found at the bottom of the gift bag made her sit back with her mouth open and only a few words came out. I wondered what had shocked her.

Those words she spoke were loosely translated to mean, "Oh my goodness", repeated over and over again. I didn't have a clue what she was referring to until I saw that she was holding a pregnancy test in her hand. It took me a few seconds to clue in but once I did I then knew why my wife sputtered those words. My daughter-in-law was pregnant.

The first thing I thought of was the delight of having a new grandson to play with, to have a grandchild that would allow me to buy all those great little toys, build a swing set, and finally have an excuse to purchase some model train gear that I wanted. But, that wasn't necessarily what my daughter-in-law had in mind.

Not only did I jump the gun in wishing for a grandson (a granddaughter is OK too), I apparently jumped the gun in even thinking that I could choose my own nickname as a grandparent. It seems that my nickname had already been chosen. And, while I objected, I never had a chance to even suggest a few grandfather nicknames. That was not the case with my wife though. She knew what she wanted as a nickname and she wouldn't hear anything different. I guess I know who has the power around here and who doesn't.

I was unceremoniously given the nickname "Grampy"; no opportunity to choose let alone object. Somehow, I must look like, or act like a "Grampy". My wife, on the other hand, had her nickname chosen in her own mind and announced to all that she would be referred to as "Nanna". Oh well, I guess I can't have everything.

The long and short of it is this; being a grandparent no matter what nickname you are given, or what nickname you prefer, the little guy or girl will certainly have their own special name for "Grampy" and "Nanna", and it really doesn't matter.

But, I did really want to choose my own nickname!!

Grandparenting - Keeping Up With the Little Ones

One of my great delights is spending time with my two grandchildren ages 4 and 2. They are bundles of energy and can find joy in so many things.

I have found that the better care I take of myself the more I can enjoy my time with them.

Here are a few of the things I do that help me keep up with them.

1. Get regular exercise

I am convinced that being in the habit of walking regularly is keeping me active and energized. It wasn't always so. I would start and stop and berate myself for my lack of discipline. A few years ago I made the decision that it was important for me to stay active as long as possible. Now that I am 70 I want to also stay flexible for which I do Pilates, have a good mind-body balance for which Yoga is good, and lift weights to strengthen my bones.

2. Be with the children in the moment

Children live in the present and that is something we can re-learn from them. We adults can fret about the past or worry about the future and forget to be mindfully present. When the children and I play I enter their world. I marvel at their imagination where reality and fantasy get blurred. I have also learned when to step back and let them play by themselves.

3. Live joyfully

A positive attitude makes life more fun. For the little ones a kiss on a "booboo" fixes it and life resumes. They don't get stuck with ruminating but can shift to what interests them. Fortunately we have control over our attitude and can do the same. Many things that can weigh us down may not be as heavy as we may make them in our minds. A positive attitude and an active body are energizing and make it possible to keep up with the grandchildren.

Feng Shui Tips For Your Home and Garden

The entry to a home or the doorway into rooms is where your first view is encountered. Doorways and entrances to anything should feel welcoming. They should be clear and the pathway should allow ease of movement.

The Chi, (or energy flow), should never be made stagnant at this point. Pictures and ornamental decorations in this area should be pleasing and round leafed plants in pots attract prosperity into the home. Another tip to remember is that if you have doorways from front to back that are visible, the flowing of energy should be stopped from escape.

A Feng Shui cure for this problem, can be by placing a plant as suggested to the side of the entry: thus creating an environment to capture the Chi flow. The essence of creating good flow and attracting harmony, involves placement.

Feng Shui recognizes that small problems can have a major effect on your life, and that a well kept home will always have better chi than one where maintenance tasks have been allowed to pile up. The minor problems and inconveniences that plague a poorly maintained home can restrict your freedom of movement, cloud your ability to understand a situation, make it difficult to take advantage of opportunities, and waste your resources.

Think of Chi as an important guest you wish to welcome to your home, and make your formal entry - and the access to it from the street - as inviting as possible.

The principles of Feng Shui can be applied to your garden as well. By applying Feng Shui principles to your garden you can attract positive energy, wealth and good fortune. Given below are a few tips and ideas on how to Feng Shui your garden.

The most important principles of Feng Shui in the garden are curves and proportion. Your house is the Yin energy and your garden is the Yang energy. The Yang aspect in Feng Shui is about light and space. Try to incorporate all the five elements of Feng Shui in your garden as much as possible.

- Use a pond, birdbath or fountain to represent the water element.
- Use a sundial or bronze statue in the garden for metal.
- Use trees and shrubs for wood.
- Use plants or flowers that are red and orange in color to represent fire.
- Use earth to represent the earth element.

Water features such as pools, ponds and fountains are beautiful and encourage beneficial chi. They also symbolize prosperity and create yin (feminine) energy.

You can create more Yang (masculine) energy by using garden lights to add light to the garden's dark areas. Remember balance and harmony is the key to a Feng Shui Garden.

10 Interesting Facts about Archangel Michael

1. The name Michael means, Who is like God. In the Bible he is called one of the chief princes (Daniel 10:13) and the great prince (Daniel 12:1).

2. Michael is usually shown with a sword, or carrying the scales of justice. Renaissance paintings show him wearing armor. These symbolize his strength, courage, truth and integrity. Michael is engaged in a ceaseless war against the forces of evil. His most famous example of this occurred when he cast Lucifer and his followers out of Heaven.

3. According to the apocryphal Book of Adam and Eve, Michael kept a close eye on the couple after they were expelled from the Garden of Eden. He taught Adam how to farm, and persuaded God to allow Adams soul to return to Heaven after he died.

4. An ancient tradition says Michael told Sarah, Abrahams wife, that she would bear a son. Although not mentioned by name, it is believed that Michael was the angel of the Lord who stopped Abraham from sacrificing his son, Isaac (Genesis 22:10).

5. Michael guides departed souls to the next world. This came about because, according to the Testament of Abraham, Michael told Abraham he was about to die. Abraham asked God if he could see all the wonders of the world so that he could die with no regrets. Michael developed his guiding expertise by taking Abraham on a tour of the inhabited world. Afterwards, he took Abraham home to prepare for his death.

6. Michael is believed to have rescued Daniel from the lions den. It is also believed that he was responsible for the plague on Egypt that ultimately led the Israelites to freedom. It was probably Michael who appeared to Joshua and called himself captain of the host of the Lord. (Joshua 5:13-15) Michael also appeared to Gideon and gave him the courage to fight his foes (Judges 6:11-18).

7. In the Islamic tradition, Mikail (Michael) is in charge of the forces of nature, and has an army of angels to help him. He has magnificent wings of green topaz. Mikail has a million tongues, each of which can speak a million languages. His long saffron hair reaches to his feet, and each hair contains a million faces. Each face contains a million eyes that cry seventy thousand tears. He takes life seriously and never laughs.

8. Joan of Arc (c.1412-1431) began hearing, and ultimately seeing, Michael at the age of thirteen. He gave her constant encouragement, and even suggested the flag she should use when leading her army.

9. Pope Leo XIII wrote a famous prayer that starts: St. Michael, the Archangel, Defend us in battle, Keep us safe from the wickedness and snares of the devil. He wrote this after a vision in which he saw Michael sending Satan back to hell. This prayer still provides comfort to many people.

10. Between 1961 and 1965, the Virgin Mary appeared several times to four children in Garabandal, Spain, telling them to change their way of life, make penances and attend church more frequently. Four years later, Michael appeared to the children and repeated the message. He also told them that if they prayed sincerely, they would receive whatever it was they prayed for.

Balanced Literacy

Balanced literacy is a theory based on the idea that there are many different learning styles for children who are learning to read. There are many different teaching methods that are effective ways for teaching reading, but alone they do not always deliver for every student. With the variety of learning styles that the students bring into the classroom it is impossible to suggest that one method of teaching would effectively teach each student how to be a good reader. The balanced reading approach bases itself on the idea that a combination of teaching methods used together will teach a greater range of students more effectively.

Lev Vygotsky, a psychologist who focused on cognitive development, viewed learning as being integrated and socially based. This view of learning follows suit with the balanced literacy approach as it focuses on learning to read as a social activity, an integrated activity that requires students to read, write, listen, and speak, and requires engagement in classroom activities. All of these ideas from Vygotsky are found in balanced instruction. Students interact in small groups, integrate the different pieces of reading as listed above, and engage in activities that allow students to interactively learn to read. (Wilkinson, 2000)

Obviously, a major piece of balanced literacy is the instructional techniques. "While many teachers in today's schools are mandated to use prescriptive basal reading programs ... a teacher should know much more to become an effective instructor of reading." (Bukowiecki, 2007) There is more than one way to teach reading to students, and the diversity and variety in the lessons can help students with all types of learning styles and needs learn to be effective readers. Before the instructional techniques can be described there is a critical theory behind reading instruction that needs to be addressed and understood, that theory is the five big ideas of reading.

The five big ideas are the backbone of reading instruction. "The National Reading Panel published its research results and recommendations in a report ... this national report presented five key literacy topics - phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and text comprehension - that should be included in daily literacy instruction" (Bukowiecki, 2007) These five ideas are the individual pieces that teachers need to focus on to promote good readers. "Big ideas are fundamental concepts and principles that help students gain the broadest knowledge within an academic area, such as beginning reading, most efficiently." (Coyne, 2006)

Balanced literacy bases much of its success in the classroom to the five big ideas. "Big ideas focus attention on the most relevant aspects of reading instruction. They also function as anchoring concepts within which 'small' ideas can often be taught and understood." (Coyne, 2006) Through a balance of teaching methods all students are able to actively participate and learn in the classroom lessons, especially at risk students who are struggling with their reading. "Teachers working with at-risk students or students who are experiencing reading difficulties can use the five big ideas as a strategic focus for instruction and intervention because these ideas target critical areas in beginning reading." (Coyne, 2006)

There are many instructional techniques that can effectively teach the five big ideas and develop excellent readers. The first, and probably the most used in reading specialist classrooms, is the basal reading approach. This approach can be seen in classrooms where teachers do reading activities in small groups and in a specified area of the classroom. The basal approach is "based on the assumption that students learn to read by reading, writing, and talking about meaningful topics." (Vacca, 2006) Many different genres of literature are able to be covered through expository and narrative texts. This approach is eclectic and follows suit with the bottom-up approach because it "presents skills to be taught in a sequence, or an interactive program, featuring unedited children's literature selections, strategy instruction, and writing opportunities." (Vacca, 2006)

Another approach to reading instruction is the language experience approach. This approach combines many different approaches, which is obviously a characteristic of balanced literacy. This strategy is "based on the idea that language should be used to communicate thoughts, ideas, and meaning." (Vacca, 2006) A great example of this approach is story dictation. Students are able to create lessons using their own language. Other popular pieces of the language experience approach include, "planned and continuous activities such as individual and group dictated stories, the building of word banks of known words, creative writing activities, oral reading of prose and poetry by teacher and students, directed reading-thinking lessons, the investigation of interests using multiple materials, and keeping records of student progress." (Vacca, 2006)

The next type of instruction is integrated language arts. This method "extends the concept of language experience by immersing students in reading, writing, talking, listening, and viewing activities." (Vacca, 2006) Each of those topics listed in the previous quote should be taught together, rather than as isolated and separate commodities. Students grow by connecting with the combination of imaginative and informative literature. The most important aspect of integrating language arts is "so that students will learn how to use language to think clearly, strategically, critically, and creatively." (Vacca, 2006)

Literature based instruction is the next instructional technique to be discussed. This method accommodates the differences in student's reading abilities while focusing on the meaning, interest, and pleasure of reading. "An important part of classroom life should be reading, reading literature that makes children wonder, weep, laugh, shiver, and gasp." (Vacca, 2006) When students are thoroughly enjoying the material that they are reading they can fully immerse themselves into reading. The students, when using this method, choose their own books which personalizes reading and ensures that they are reading high interest materials. A good strategy used under this theory is based on the idea that "literature can be used as a springboard for writing - children can write different endings for stories or incidents in their own lives that reflect conflicts similar to ones about which they have read." (Vacca, 2006) Another extension of this technique is to allow students to use the same structure of an existing story and write their own following that structure. Students are able to feel control over their learning while advancing their reading and writing abilities.

The final instructional technique to be discussed is technology based instruction. With the changes in technology it should be no surprise that computers and the internet have changed the way that people read and write. Emails are a great tool that students can use to practice reading and writing. The invention of the CD-ROM also created an engaging way for students to practice their reading skills. In the classroom items such as smart boards, electromagnetic LCD pen monitors, and web-cams are changing the way that reading is taught. Word processors are a fun way for students to create texts and practice reading and writing. (Vacca, 2006)

All of these approaches that were pointed out can be used together in the balanced literacy approach to ensure that students are getting everything that they can from the reading lessons. The balance of strategies such as these discussed has been proven to be effective in the classroom. "A clear knowledge of comprehension strategies combined with an awareness of when and how to use them can provide readers ... with an arsenal of tactics to ensure that they construct meaning as they read" (Vacca, 2006) As good as the balanced approach is for students, the downside is that it is quite difficult for teachers.

The balanced approach to teaching could be somewhat overwhelming for new teachers because it requires them to utilize different methods to teach the material. There is a great debate going on about how well teachers are being educated in reading instruction. In an article that surveyed teachers to find education patterns came to a simple conclusion that relates to the balanced approach. "Clearly there was a consensus that an effective preservice reading education would include balanced, practical methodologies across a number of reading related courses supplemented by multiple field experience opportunities." (Broemmel, 2006) This conclusion illustrates the idea that balance is necessary even for instructing adult teachers because it creates a diverse experience that everyone can benefit from.

Balanced literacy creates a diverse and eclectic approach to teaching learning. It utilizes numerous methods to include every student and promote effective and efficient readers by touching on the different learning styles. From struggling readers to advanced readers, all are able to benefit from the balanced literacy approach.
